Long distance bus services from Kolkata are provided by a host of public sector
companies like the Kolkata State Transport Corporation , the North Bengal State Transport
Corporation, the South Bengal State Transport Corporation and the West Bengal Surface
Transport Corporation. The Kolkata State Transport Corporation has services to tourist
places like Digha, Diamond Harbour, Namkhana, Hazaribagh, Ranchi, Rajgir and Puri. North
Bengal State Transport Corporation runs services to north Bengal towns like Siliguri,
Baharampur, Malda and Raiganj. The Orissa State Road Transport Corporation and the Bihar
State Road Transport Corporation also have bus services from Kolkata. Several private
operators also provide a number of services. Long distance bus services generally start
from the Esplanade Bus Terminus (near Sahid Minar) right in the heart of Kolkata. Long
distance buses also leave from Babu Ghat (near Eden Gardens), Howrah Station and the
Ultadanga terminus.
International bus Services:
International bus services are run by the West Bengal Surface Transport Corporation to
Dhaka (Bangladesh) and by the Royal Bhutan Government to Phuntsholing (Bhutan). The Dhaka
buses leave from Karunamoyee (Bidhan Nagar/ Salt Lake) while the Bhutan buses leave from
Esplanade.
